Exploring the Future of Architecture Through Natural, Artificial, and Collective Intelligence

The Venice Architecture Biennale 2025, curated by renowned architect and engineer Carlo Ratti, will explore intelligence in its various forms. Running from May 10 to November 23, 2025, this 19th International Architecture Exhibition will be held at several iconic venues in Venice, including the Giardini and the Arsenale.

Titled “Intelligens. Natural. Artificial. Collective,” the exhibition examines natural ingenuity, artificial intelligence, and collective wisdom. This theme is particularly relevant as the world faces the climate crisis, emphasizing sustainable architectural solutions.

Ratti’s interdisciplinary approach integrates insights from art, engineering, biology, data science, and social sciences. Venice will become a living laboratory where architects act as “mutagens,” pushing the boundaries of architectural practice through experimentation. The exhibition will feature designs and experiments that highlight adaptability and resourcefulness in response to environmental challenges.

A key highlight will be the “Space for Ideas,” an open submissions portal inviting architects and designers worldwide to contribute innovative solutions. This inclusive approach fosters diverse voices and ideas, encouraging collaborative problem-solving. Additionally, the second edition of the Student Biennale will showcase emerging talents, enriching the exhibition’s impact.

The exhibition will emphasize sustainability and resource efficiency, redefining architectural intelligence by showcasing solutions that leverage limited resources. This includes exploring natural, artificial, and collective intelligence intersections to present sustainable future ideas.

In a presentation video, Cristiana Costano, head of the press office for architecture and visual arts at La Biennale, introduced key speakers, including Roberto Cicutto, President of La Biennale, and Carlo Ratti. The video outlined the Biennale’s goals, highlighting Venice’s unique blend of natural and artificial intelligence in addressing climate change. The exhibition will transform Venice into a “living lab” to demonstrate practical applications of these themes.
