In a world where the scales are often tipped against women, especially in countries of the Global South, nuruWomen emerges as a beacon of hope and empowerment. This non-profit organization is committed to the self-empowerment of women, particularly in Ethiopia, by providing them with the resources and support they need to unlock their full potential.

A Vision for Equality

nuruWomen operates on a simple yet profound vision: every woman on this planet has the right to be treated equally, to live a self-determined and independent life. This vision is not just a lofty ideal but a guiding principle that informs every action and initiative undertaken by the organization. Women in Ethiopia, who often bear the brunt of poverty and structural discrimination, are the primary focus of nuruWomen’s efforts. The organization believes that by helping these women start their own businesses, they can foster self-esteem, identity, and problem-solving abilities, breaking free from traditional gender roles.

Sustainable Self-Help

What They Do

nuruWomen employs a multi-faceted approach to achieve its mission. Through educational and awareness-raising activities, financing training courses, and providing microloans, the organization supports women in implementing various business ideas. This enables them to build a future that is fulfilling, hopeful, and financially secure.

The Ethiopian Context

Ethiopia is a land of contrasts. Rich in history, nature, and culture, it is also one of the poorest countries in the world. While women’s rights are enshrined in the Ethiopian constitution, their practical implementation is far from commonplace, especially in rural areas where women face structural disadvantages due to traditional gender roles. The opportunities for education and personal development are minimal, making the work of NuruWomen all the more crucial.

Transparency and Accountability

nuruWomen places a high value on transparency. It is part of an action alliance that has agreed on essential parameters for effective transparency standards. This commitment to openness ensures that the organization’s operations are not just effective but also trustworthy.

The work of nuruWomen is not just about individual empowerment; it’s about creating a ripple effect that can transform communities and, ultimately, the world.
