Dresden and its magnificent museums are always worth a visit, but this autumn is particularly special:
For over 40 years, Dresden was the home of one of the most celebrated German Romantic painters and draftsmen Caspar David Friedrich, whose works are now considered some of the most significant pieces of the German Romantic era. At the exhibition in the Albertinum, Caspar David Friedrich’s (1774–1840) paintings are juxtaposed with the important landscape artworks from the Dresden Gallery that once inspired him. These landscapes by great masters like Jakob Ruisdael, Salvatore Rosa, and Claude Lorrain were already highly valued masterpieces during Friedrich’s lifetime: Albertinum: Caspar David Friedrich – Where It All Began (skd.museum).
We will also visit the Archive of the Avant-Gardes — Egidio Marzona (ADA), which contains one of the most extensive collections of artworks, objects, and documents from 20th-century avant-garde movements. Since the late 1960s, collector Egidio Marzona has gathered an extraordinary collection showcasing the radical artistic ideas, utopias, and the surprising interconnections among the artists. Marzona, a major art collector and patron, is renowned for his extensive archive that highlights avant-garde movements. His collection offers rare insights into the innovation and network of avant-garde artists: Archive of the Avant-Gardes (skd.museum)
